Mailing Manager 2012-2014
Operations Manager 2014-current

Since June 2014, I have been the Operations Manager of StorterChilds in Gainesville, FL which puts me in direct contact with all of our employees. Gaining trust, developing communication, and managing expectations are the skills that are needed to successfully manage and lead people. I am honing my skills through applied practice on a daily basis. My responsibilities are to manage the day-to-day operations of producing print communications for our clients: supervising, planning, purchasing, and organizaing are the main focuses.

Before my promotion, I went to China and visited RRD Beijing to study their workflow and bring value back to StorterChilds, and my biggest take away was their Continued Improvement Program (CIP). I started my version of CIP and implemented it at StorterChilds. The CIP brings to the surface issues that employees face on a daily basis and allows them to derive the solution. The CIP empowers employees and builds social capital by working together on something other than the normal duties.

Developing my emotional quotient and communication skills by studying at SF, I was offered the mailing manager position at Beechler's. The opportunity to learn a new aspect of print communications while shifting my responsibilities to a managerial role was exciting, and I worked dilligently to learn all of the resources and services offered by the United Staes Postal Service (USPS); furthermore, being compliant to the regulations is a must because noncompliance can increase postage. Becoming a mailing expert is an ongoing process because USPS is starting to utilize technology and the rules are always changing.  Beechler's Printing was the first mailer to become full-service certified at our local Business Mail Entry Unit (BMEU) under my leadership.

In January 2013, Beechler's closed its' doors due to legal matters. Realizing that the closing was an opportunity, I wrote a business proposal and offered to sell the mailing equipment to StorterChilds and start in-house mailing department by hiring myself and another employee. StorterChilds accepted the terms, and I was hired as the mailing manager. Integrating an additional department within an existing organization was challenging. My responsibilities were to incorporate the mailing department within the workflow. I created processes to ensure the highest quality product was produced and the most economical postage achieved. Quickly, StorterChilds became the most advanced mail house within the north central Florida region earning "full service" and "mail anywhere" status which allowed us to create more revenue and save costs.

Entering the worforce in 1998 as a nonskilled laboror, I worked as a helper in the bindery at County Wide Printing, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Witihin six months, I was running the folder. Eventually, after one year, I found another opportunity to run bindery equipment at All Florida Bindery, Hollywood, FL, until 2001 when I decided to raise my family in Gainesville, FL, so we moved and I started working at StorterChilds in the bindery as a machine operator. I was responsible for setting up and running all finishing equipment.  When running machinery, I always track my productivity and looking for ways to shave seconds by being efficient.

Wanting to move forward in my career, I was offered an opportunity to become the bindery foreman at Beechler's Printing in 2004, I was hired as a working supervisor in which I was responsible for the workflow and personel in the bindery. I managed a group of five to eight employees with various skills and personalities. Creating a productive work environment was my main responsibility which included physical and mental work space. I was able to hone my training skills because we hired nonskilled labororers and I trained employees on how to run the finishing equipment. With my training expereince, I found that recognizing a personality type and adjusting my communication style is the key to promoting others' success.

In 2009, I started working a second job at Gator Dominos delivering hot and delicious pizza at night and on the weekend. I enjoyed becoming a delivery expert and further worked on buildinng social capital within the organization. The YouTube video below is a recording of a jingle I made up while working at Gominos. After returning from a delivery, I would sing this song aloud to raise moral and get others engaged. Through Dominos training, I learned a lot about customer service.

In 2011, I realized that working a second job was a bandage on my financial situation. I needed to make more money and work less hours, so with the help of my best friend, Niel Wingfield, I decided to go back to college. I needed to garner a degree to gain more responsibility and increase my income. The lessons I learned about myself through studying the Liberal Arts has promoted my success in my personel life, school, and within my career.
